Angami Gazetted Officers’ Krotho (AGOK) organised “Nounyü Rüchü” on August 22 at NBCC Convention Centre, Kohima, under the theme “The ardent need to change the mindset and perspective of educated unemployed youth towards self-reliance.”
According to DIPR report, delivering the keynote address, AGOK president Neilasa Sopfü expressed concern over the rising presence of illegal migrants in Nagaland, particularly in Kohima and Dimapur. He stated that unemployment among locals is directly or indirectly affected by the dominance of IBIs in both menial jobs and entrepreneurial ventures. Citing data, Sopfü noted a 181.67% growth in IBI population from 1991 to 2021, warning that Nagas could become a minority by 2051 if the trend continues. He also highlighted the economic drain caused by IBIs through business activities, intermarriage, and adoption, urging collective awareness and action.
President of NAGOK, Er. Vipulhou Lhoungu, shared his personal journey as a young engineer and encouraged youth to pursue vocational training in trades such as painting, plumbing, and electrical work. Quoting Proverbs 16:3, he urged youth to commit their work to God for success.
WAGOK president Rokovisa Chase spoke on the country’s economic status, stagnancy in government employment, and the need to shift focus toward private enterprise and self-reliance. He echoed concerns over the impact of IBIs on local employment and urged youth to change their mindset.
AGOK legal advisor Vikhozo Vitsu presented data on Nagaland’s business landscape, revealing that out of 23,777 shops, 17,055 are operated by non-locals. He cited Mizoram’s example, where the Young Mizo Association restricts outsiders from owning businesses, and stressed the need to regulate trade and safeguard local identity.
SAGOK president Tepunol Yore advocated for youth engagement in agri and allied sectors, outlining the benefits of cultivating commercial plantation, horticulture, aromatic, and spice crops.
CGOK president Er. Kekhrielhoutuo Nakhro highlighted the advantages of NEP 2020, especially in skill development and vocational training. He urged youth to embrace dignity of labour and prepare for the emerging working-age demographic by 2030.
The programme brought together leaders from various Angami gazetted officers’ bodies, aiming to inspire youth toward self-sufficiency, economic resilience, and protection of local interests.
