Agriculture department conducts IPM training at Longjemdang village

Department of Agriculture under Mangkolemba, conducted a training program on IPM (winter crops) under RKVY at Longjemdang village on January 8. 

A press release by SDAO Mangkolemba office stated that SDAO, Mangkolemba A. Temsu Aier welcomed the farmers to the training program and encouraged them to follow sustainable farming practices. 
He informed the farmers that with the increasing population, the demand for food was increasing, and IPM techniques have been successful in reducing use of chemicals to control crop pests and increasing crop production to a vast extent over the years.
The farmers were asked to select healthy seeds and tubers and treat them with appropriate bio-fertilizers before planting them, practice clean cultivation and inspect fields at regular intervals. 
The farmers were trained on differentiating crop pests from defenders, and were shown the use of sticky traps and pheromone traps. 
The farmers also shared their experiences with the department officials. 
The program was followed by free distribution of IPM kits, pheromone traps and sticky traps
