Guwahati, Jul 15 (PTI): Opposition Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi was on Wednesday suspended from the Assam Assembly for the day after repeatedly interrupting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a discussion on the state budget.
Gogoi attempted to interrupt Sarma on several occasions while the chief minister was speaking.
Despite repeated requests by Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass to take his seat, the legislator continued to interject.
When Sarma mentioned that the state’s multidimensional poverty rate had declined from 32.67 per cent in 2015 to 14.47 per cent at present, Gogoi again rose from his seat to contend that the state’s overall ranking in the index remained high.
Dass then ordered the suspension of Gogoi for the rest of the day, with marshals escorting him out of the House. Before leaving, Gogoi covered his mouth with a black cloth as he collected his belongings while being surrounded by security personnel.
