DIMAPUR, SEP 27 (NPN): Akhoya Village Council (AVC) has expressed anguish over what it described as “thoughtless and disrespectful” utterances by NSCN (I-M) leaders V.S. Atem and R.H. Raising against former Nagaland chief minister and prominent Naga political leader Dr S.C. Jamir.
In a statement, AVC chairman Tiatemjen Longkumer said that Ungma was the original village of its forefathers and expressed solidarity with the decision of Ungma Senso Mongdang and Ao Senden regarding the demand for withdrawal of the “derogatory” statements made by the two NSCN (I-M) leaders and disengagement of people’s cooperation from their leadership.
The council said it was time for Naga political leaders to demonstrate a high standard of magnanimity and refrain from making any Naga leader a “scapegoat” for their own failures, adding that everyone was failing in fulfilling the political aspirations of the Naga people.
It also appealed to Naga political leaders to seek forgiveness from God and the people and forgive one another.
The AVC further expressed concern over the remarks made by NPF secretary general and MLA Achumbemo Kikon against Jamir, describing Kikon as a young legislator and Indian politician who was “fresh” in state politics.
The council said Jamir was an “architect of Nagaland state” and pointed out that Kikon enjoyed the privilege of sitting in the same Legislative Assembly that, according to the AVC, was built through the efforts of Naga People’s Convention (NPC) leaders led by Dr Imkongliba and Jamir, along with other Naga leaders, amid difficult circumstances in the Naga Hills.
AVC urged Kikon to be more cultured and sensitive to the “existential reality” of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and to present his views for the greater good of the future of the Naga people.
