Aghunaqa Kukami Kuqhakulu (AKK) comprising of 38 villages under Nuiland sub-division expressed its resentment over the tension allegedly being created by Assam government in the recent past.
Narrating the incident, AKK president, Mughavi Awomi claimed that on November 10, Assam police and forest personnel had entered Luhezhe village and took over the village mill, shouting various slogans in the middle of the village.
On November 22, Awomi alleged that a group of people had come and burnt the effigy of the Prime Minister of India.
He said adding to tensions, “the border magistrate of Assam without the knowledge of Nagaland chief minister visited Aghunaqa area when preparations for inauguration of Aghunaqa GBs trophy was going on” and reported back to the Assam government.
Awomi alleged that the official had wrongly reported the matter, which was also published in visual media of Assam, alleging that Nagas were trying to occupy the land of Assam. In this regard, an emergency meeting was called by Assam government on November 22 at Rengmapani, where DIGs (Border) of both Assam and Nagaland, SPs of both states, designated officers, army officials and GBs of Aghunaqa Area Assam border attended.
Though the meeting ended successfully, he said the outcome of the meeting was once again misinterpreted, leading to the visit of Assam minister along with MP, BJP president and leaders of Golaghat on November 25 in Aghunaqa area, Awomi stated.
He expressed apprehension that if such situation continues, it would hamper the friendly relations between the two states and also create more tension and havoc among the people, which could “lead to chaos and destruction.”
