Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has demanded that as the censuses of 2001 and 2011 could not be considered as the basis for delimitation due to some variations in data, status quo should be maintained regarding the existing Assembly constituencies of the State.
In a representation to Nagaland Governor, AKM president Nungdokyanger Ao and general secretary Nekmi Longkumer also reminded that Nagaland state was created due to the Naga political struggle and since then had being governed by a special constitutional provision under Article 371(A) till date. Referring to the May 29, 2020 order of the Election Commission of India the subsequent order of the state deputy CEO on June 4 on delimitation exercise, AKM said it had created “mixed reaction from different tribal organizations and further created social unrest” in the state.
Further, AKM also mentioned that Naga political settlement was of paramount importance for the youth of the state and hoped for an early honourable, acceptable and inclusive political settlement the Naga issue.
In this regard, has urged governor to take judicious measure in the larger interest of the Nagas as a whole.
