Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has voiced serious concerns over the severe shortage of teachers and poor educational facilities in government schools across the Langpangkong range, under the jurisdiction of the Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Changtongya.
In a press release, AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and education secretary Lanulemba Longchar stated that they visited 21 schools from May 19 to May 23 as part of their fourth phase of inspections. During the visits, they found that many schools lack enough teachers, with some being transferred without replacements. While several institutions face a shortage of classrooms, affecting learning quality.
One of the most concerning cases was GPS Luyimlenden (Kangtsungyimsen), which has only two teachers for six classrooms since 2015. Despite repeated requests from the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) and the Village Council for additional staff, there has been no response, leading to frequent class cancellations and students leaving due to the lack of proper education.
Other affected schools included GHS Kangtsung, which has had no Math teacher since 2021 and no Hindi teacher since 2023. Similarly, GMS Tuli-A has lacked an English teacher since 2023, while GPS Aopenzu has operated with only three teachers and three classrooms since its establishment.
AKM expressed concern over the failure to replace retired teachers in almost all the schools inspected. It urged authorities to take immediate action by deploying more teachers and improving school infrastructure.
The organization also called for a detailed inspection of all schools to fully understand the extent of the problem and ensure swift corrective measures. AKM announced that a full report would be published after all inspections are completed, followed by necessary actions.
