AKM dissatisfied with construction works at IMDH

DIMAPUR, MAY 27 (NPN):

Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing construction works at Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung and demanded that the health and family welfare (H&FW) department set up IMDH construction technical evaluation team by May 31, 2025.
In a representation addressed to the principal director H&FW, the AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba pointed out that construction project, sanctioned in January 2018 under the National Health Mission (NHM) with an approximate budget of Rs. 13.70 crore and a stipulated timeline of 36 months, was far from complete.
AKM said the progress has been very slow, with substandard building materials used in the construction.
It also stated that frequent visits and inspections by various CSOs, and numerous complaints have been regarding the materials used yet the construction did not appear to follow the approved De-tailed Project Report (DPR).
Apex Ao student body said that construction lacked quality control measures and could collapse in the event of a natural disaster.
When it inspected the site on May 21, 2025, AKM said plaster was found falling off the walls, and cracks were visible from the ground to the top floor.
In the light of the above, AKM has demanded setting up of technical evaluation team comprising of experts and stakeholders by May 31, 2025 to assess the ongoing construction. It also demanded that all affected sections be repaired before the building could be used.
AKM further demanded termination of contract if the firm failed to deliver on time and the contract be re-tendered and awarded to a more competent firm.
It urged the responsible department to immediately halt the ongoing construction unless the building was properly evaluated.
AKM cautioned that failure to fulfil its genuine demands would compel it to take stronger measures to ensure the safety and welfare of the community.
