AKM to hold public rally in Mkg today; Health deptt appeals to call off stir

Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has informed the general public that it would be organising a public rally on March 15, 2025 at 8am at Mokokchung Police Point.

In a circular, AKM vice-president Onenpong and general secretary Satemmongba informed that “this extensive step” was necessitated due to the governments’ inability to respond to the demands put forward by the AKM regarding shortage of doctors at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung despite repeated representations and ultimatum.

AKM has, therefore, appealed to the general public to bear with the inconveniences that could arise due to the proposed rally and extend cooperation and support.

H&FW deptt appeals
Meanwhile, in light of the assurances given during the meeting held on Friday at Mokokchung, the department of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) has appealed to the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) to call off its proposed agitation.

When contacted, an official from the Health department informed that the meeting, chaired by DC Mokokchung and chairman, governing body IMDH Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, saw the participation of representatives from district administration, police, directorate of Health & Family Welfare (Kohima), Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, and Ao Students’ Conference (AKM).

After hearing the views and comments from all concerned stakeholders, the meeting discussed and agreed upon the following decisions.
The Health department assured that one Anesthesia doctor would be posted after completing necessary official procedures.

Given the state-wide shortage of Obs & Gynae specialists, the department confirmed that a doctor in this field would be posted following recruitment through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).

Further, one medical officer will be posted at TB Hospital, in lieu of the transfer of one doctor from TB Hospital to IMDH Mokokchung.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the issue, citing the decisions taken during the meeting held on Friday.
