In a significant development aimed at strengthening healthcare support within the Ao community, the Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Guwahati (AKTG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Apollo Excelcare Hospital Guwahati on April 6, 2025.
For AKTG, the MoU was signed by Dr. Lipok Jamir, treasurer, AKTG, Abenla Mar, advisor, and Watilong.T.Jamir, president, while for Apollo Excelcare Hospital, Thaomunglung Chukhrungfa, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Excelcare Hospital Guwahati Dr. Kasturi Kalita, Consultant and HOD, Department of Blood transfusion service signed the agreement.
The collaboration seeks to ensure the availability and safe storage of blood within the hospital, a step that will significantly enhance healthcare services for the Ao community.
Watilong T. Jamir, president of AKTG, expressed gratitude to the Apollo Excelcare Hospital management for responding to the pressing healthcare needs of the Ao community.
He emphasized the significance of this partnership in facilitating better healthcare access and resources for the community, which has long been in need of such services. He further added that this initiative comes at a crucial time when the Ao community has been in dire need of accessible and reliable healthcare solutions.
As part of the agreement, Apollo Excelcare Hospital has committed to provide free ambulance services for Ao students residing within a 20-kilometer radius of Guwahati.
The initiative will ensure that students receive timely emergency medical transportation, guaranteeing that they get critical medical attention when required. In addition to this, Apollo Excelcare Hospital has offered 15% discount on all outpatient services and on inpatient services for members of the Ao Naga community in general, which will help alleviate the financial burden of healthcare costs for families.
The offer will be available to all the Ao Naga community in general, contingent upon the fulfillment of the hospital’s established policies and in terms and conditions.
Thaomunglung, Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Excelcare Hospital, further reiterated the hospital’s commitment to support the Ao community, particularly its students, in every possible way.
The initiative was originally conceived in 2022 under the visionary leadership of Adv. Noklensangyu Pongen. Over the past few years, Adv. Pongen, Dr. Lipok Jamir, Rev. Dr. Toshirenba Pongen along with Watilong T. Jamir and other leaders, have been working diligently, deliberating ideas and envisioning a future where the community’s healthcare needs are adequately addressed.
