AKTM conducts skill development programme for youth at Kobulong

DIMAPUR: Asetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang (AKTM) inaugurated a two-day Skill Development Programme on Self-Sustenance at Kobulong EAC Sub-Division on October 19 under the theme, “Pei Ketmung Ajanga Litetba Shishashir”.
The programme, which concluded on October 20, witnessed the participation of more than 60 youths from the area.
Addressing the gathering, AKTM president Bendangkumzuk said the initiative was organised in pursuance of a resolution adopted during the organisation’s 43rd general conference. He stated that the programme aimed to promote self-reliance among youth by equipping them with practical skills and creating avenues for self-employment.
According to him, AKTM believes that the community possesses valuable skills, knowledge and resources that can be developed into sustainable livelihood opportunities. He expressed hope that the training would inspire participants to become more skilled, independent and self-reliant.
AKTM women coordinator informed that participants received training in basket making, preparation of Amzu, a traditional sticky-rice biscuit, tapioca bhujia production and banana chip processing.
She noted that Amzu, a traditional delicacy handed down through generations, was gradually disappearing. Therefore, special emphasis was placed on preserving this cultural heritage while exploring its potential as a marketable local product.
Participants were also trained in marketing, photography and video editing to enable them to promote their products and reach wider markets. Resource persons from the locality shared indigenous knowledge and practical expertise during the sessions.
On the second day, participants received training in shiitake mushroom cultivation. The programme also featured special sessions on business planning, product promotion and marketing linkages through both online and offline platforms.
Bendangkumzuk said the initiative was aimed at equipping youth with practical skills, preserving traditional knowledge and promoting entrepreneurship and self-sustenance.
