Aliawati Longkumer currently, the Charge d’Affaires ad Interim at the Embassy of India in Asuncion, Paraguay has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The appointment was issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on June 16 . He is expected to take up his new assignment in Pyongyang shortly.
Hailing from Yaongyimsen Village, Mokokchung, Aliawati Longkumer is the son of late Er. N. Tsukti Longkumer and late Thejano Longkumer.
Longkumer’s appointment comes at a time when India is seeking to maintain diplomatic engagement with DPRK amidst a complex geopolitical environment in the Korean Peninsula.
As per the MEA, relations between India and North Korea have been generally characterised by friendship, cooperation and understanding.
