All party assembly delegation led by CM meet NSCN (I-M) leaders

A day after meeting Union Home minister Amit Shah, the all-party Assembly delegation led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, NLA speaker Sharingain and leader of opposition (LoP) TR Zeliang met NSCN (I-M) general secretary Th Muivah and other leaders, in New Delhi on Friday.

When contacted, Zeliang informed Nagaland Post that the delegation met both Shah and Muivah in the light of the Assembly resolution on February 18 to pursue “early solution to Naga political issue”.

Zeliang said the delegation were directed to meet Shah while seeking an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At the meeting with Shah Thursday evening, Zeliang said the delegation discussed the recent dialogue between Government of India and NSCN (I-M). He said home minister Shah informed them that the Government of India had made a proposal to NSCN (I-M) and expressed the hope that the Naga issue will be resolved after Assam Assembly election.

In the almost three-hour meeting with NSCN (I-M) leaders on Friday morning, the LoP said the delegates discussed the progress of the talks.

Zeliang said the NSCN(I-M) leaders were “apprehensive about the proposal of Government of India and termed it as biased and outside the purview of the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015.”

At Friday’s meeting , Zeliang said he had specifically told Muivah that when Centre and State governments were seriously working together on resolving the Naga issue, NSCN (I-M) should be “realistic in its approach to arrive at a logical conclusion keeping in mind the future generation because no State can progress without a society riddled with factionalism”.

It may be mentioned that the all-party Assembly delegation also held a meeting with Working Committee (WC), Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) at Dimapur, prior to departure for New Delhi.
