‘All Souls Day’ observed in Kohima

Catholics in Kohima observed “All Souls Day” to remember and pray for their loved ones “who have gone for their eternal reward and who are currently in a state of on-going purification” on November 2.

Khonoma: Catholics of Khonoma gathered together at the cemetery to offer prayer and remember those who had gone before them.

A holy eucharist was offered on the altar by counsellor, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Rev. Fr. C. Joseph. He said that the catechism of the catholic church (CCC #1032) recommends prayer for the dead in conjunction with the offering of the eucharistic sacrifice.

During the programme, people lit candles on the tomb of their loved ones and asked god to grant the eternal rest to their departed souls.

Kidima: St Francis Xavier Catholic Church Kidima under diocese of Kohima, India observed “All Souls Day” with Reverend Father Siby John, Parish Priest as main celebrant at the church premises.

In the homily, Fr Siby John urged the faithful to ask pardon from Jesus for their failures and could not pray for the departed souls.

Enchanting of prayer hymns, eucharist celebration, lighting of candles symbolising Jesus’ glory of resurrection and special prayer offered in tomb were highlights of the traditional practice of the liturgy of the sacred ceremony.
