A week after being exposed as a fraud at a press briefing, Dimapur police finally arrested one Md Babul Ali a.k.a. “Jay Therapist” on July 15 following allegations of fraud and impersonation.
Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, informed that Ali was arrested under relevant sections of the law.
It may be recalled that Dr. Imlikumba, a certified Ayurveda Medical Officer at NEIAFMR, Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, exposed the nefarious activities of the Babul Ali who he alleged, lacked even basic educational prerequisites for an Ayush diploma.
Dr. Imlikumba also informed that Md. Babul Ali who had been running an Ayurveda Centre, claimed he possessed multiple diplomas in Ayurvedic Herbology & Pharmacology, Ayurvedic Massage & Panchakarma, and Ayurvedic Disease Diagnosis. Dr. Imlikumba referenced a Gazette of India notification dated December 29, 2023, which stated that only persons with accredited qualifications may practice Ayurveda.
Dr. Imlikumba who filed the FIR, had raised serious concern regarding Ali’s credentials and highlighted that the fake therapist had been issuing massage training certificates without meeting National Testing and Educational Trends (NTET) criteria.
It may be recalled that Max Naga, a social activist, first exposed Jay Therapist’s operation highlighting lack of registered certifications.
Ali had also obtained recommendations from 31 churches to highlight miraculous healing.
The charges against Babul Ali include violations of the Magical Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, specifically for promoting miracle cures such as healing gallbladder stones within three days.
