DIMAPUR, SEP 21 (NPN): 30 Alongtaki Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) has sought transparency and an impartial inquiry into issues surrounding the Mangkolemba multi-purpose hall, reportedly sanctioned under the Khelo India Scheme.
In a press release, 30 Alongtaki ACCC president A Chuba Longkumer and general secretary (admin) Tinuakum said the public had a right to know details of the project’s sanction, implementation, construction and intended utilisation, particularly as it involved public funds.
The committee said a multi-purpose hall could provide a platform for sports, youth activities, community programmes and cultural events, and stressed that such public projects should be implemented transparently and in the public interest.
It also highlighted Mangkolemba’s wider significance as the headquarters of Jangpetkong, Japukong and Tsurangkong ranges, saying infrastructure developed there served a population beyond the town itself. ACCC urged the authorities to make relevant records and project details available for public scrutiny, investigate any alleged irregularities and ensure that the facility ultimately served the people of Mangkolemba and the three ranges.
The committee said seeking clarification on a public project was part of democratic accountability and that legitimate questions raised by citizens and civil society should be addressed transparently.
ACCC expressed support for Mangkolemba civil society organisations (CSOs) and residents seeking transparency and accountability. The party said it would support “every legitimate and democratic effort” to bring the matter to a conclusion and make the facts public.
