WOKHA May 29 (NPN): Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (MMDH), Wokha, witnessed the launch and flag-off of an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative supported by the IRFC Foundation, the CSR arm of Indian Railway Finance Corporation Limited (IRFC Ltd.), at the hospital premises on May 29.
The initiative aims to strengthen emergency healthcare services in the district by providing advanced medical transport facilities for critically ill patients and improving emergency response in remote and rural areas.
General manager, Indian Railway Finance Corporation, Nav Goel attended the programme as the special guest while additional secretary, Department of Finance and Investment and Infrastructure Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Vineet Kumar attended as the guest of honour. The event was also attended by officials from the Government of Nagaland, IRFC, district administration, medical fraternity, and members of the public.
According to the details shared during the programme, the ambulance is a Tata Advanced Life Support (ALS) Type-D Ambulance, fully compliant with AIS 125 norms and built on the Tata Winger platform. Described as an “ICU on Wheels,” the ambulance is equipped with advanced life-saving facilities including ECG machine, blood pressure monitor, suction machine, defibrillator, GPS tracking system, oxygen delivery system, auto-loading stretcher, saline and IV support hooks, and jumbo dual oxygen cylinder support system.
The vehicle also features modular medical cabinetry, dual air-conditioning system, germ-free AIS 125 compliant interiors, roof-mounted LED blinkers and emergency warning systems, public address and siren system, along with external charging support for onboard medical equipment.
The project included all required compliances such as vehicle registration, insurance, GPS integration, medical equipment installation and statutory clearances.
Speaking on the programme, Nav Goel said IRFC supports projects that create meaningful social impact and expressed pride in being associated with Wokha. He noted that Nagaland’s hilly terrain and geographical challenges often make emergency medical transportation difficult and stated that the ALS ambulance represents a critical life-saving intervention capable of making the difference between life and death during emergencies. He also appreciated the district administration for identifying a project of genuine social significance and public benefit.
Deputy commissioner of Wokha, Mhathung Tsanglao, described the ambulance as a timely blessing, noting that the hospital had been in urgent need of a well-equipped emergency vehicle. He thanked IRFC for supporting the district through its CSR initiative and expressed confidence that the ambulance would greatly benefit the people of Wokha.
Vineet Kumar recalled that the initiative was conceived around September 2025 during his tenure as deputy commissioner of Wokha. He said that following his transfer, the project was carried forward by the present district administration with the vision of strengthening healthcare services in the district. Kumar thanked IRFC for financing the project and said it was conceptualized to ensure timely access to healthcare and improve emergency medical response. He also commended the district administration for pursuing the initiative and expressed hope that the ambulance would effectively serve the healthcare needs of the people.
The ambulance was blessed with a prayer by assistant pastor, Wokha Town Baptist Church, Zurenthung Humtsoe, and was later flagged off by the special guest.
