ALT flags construction lapses at AYUSH hospital

DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN)

Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT), the apex Ao youth organization, has extended support to the Chungtia Village Council and Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU) regarding the “substandard construction” of 50-bedded integrated AYUSH Hospital at Sabangya.
In a press release, ALT convener Imnaonen Pongen and co-convener Tia Longchar expressed deep concern over the reported lapses in construction.
ALT said the “lapses” acknowledged even by the contractor (KC Infra Projects Pvt Ltd) was a serious indictment of the work being carried out and confirmed the legitimate grievances raised by the local bodies.
The Telongjem reminded that public infrastructure projects, especially those related to healthcare, must be executed with the highest standards of quality and integrity.
Lauding CVC and CSU for their proactive and vigilant stance, the Telongjem said that their ultimatum for a joint inspection was a reasonable and necessary step to ensure that the rectification work was “not merely a superficial fix” but a genuine effort to address the core issues.
ALT termed as “unacceptable” that despite efforts of the local bodies, there had been no official response from the health & family welfare (H&FW) department.
Therefore, ALT has called upon the H&FW department to immediately schedule a joint inspection and ensure comprehensive rectification.
The Telongjem said that the contractor’s aims to meet the January 2026 deadline cannot come at the expense of quality. It maintained that satisfaction of the community and the public must be the paramount goal, not just the “satisfaction of the department.”
ALT said that lack of a response from the department was “a failure of communication” and urged the department to engage with the stakeholders and provide a clear plan of action.
Describing AYUSH hospital construction as “a significant investment in the health and well-being of our community”, the Telongjem said it cannot allow the project to be marred by poor workmanship.
Stating that it would continue to monitor the situation closely, the Telongjem warned that it would not hesitate to take further action to ensure concerns were addressed and a quality hospital was delivered.
