Amit Shah Blasts Congress in Assam; Highlights BJP’s Peace and Development Agenda

During an election rally in Dhekiajuli on Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a forceful critique of the Congress party, contrasting its historical governance with the “transformative” progress seen under the BJP-led governments in both the Centre and Assam. Shah highlighted a massive surge in financial support, claiming that while the Congress provided approximately ₹1.28 lakh crore to the state over a decade, the Modi administration has invested nearly ₹9 lakh crore between 2014 and 2024. He pointed to major industrial and educational milestones, such as the establishment of a semiconductor plant and the ongoing development of medical and engineering colleges in every district, as evidence of the government’s commitment to the region’s growth.

Beyond economic development, the Home Minister emphasized the restoration of peace and security in the state. He credited the BJP with ending an era of frequent violence and bomb blasts, noting that multiple peace accords have led to nearly 10,000 youths laying down their arms. Shah also took a strong stance on national security and heritage, asserting that the current government ensures “not an inch” of Indian land can be encroached upon—a sharp jab at Jawaharlal Nehru’s historical handling of the 1962 China war. He concluded by challenging Congress leaders on the issue of illegal infiltration and accused the party of long neglecting Assamese cultural icons like Bhupen Hazarika and Gopinath Bordoloi, who he noted were only properly honored with the Bharat Ratna under non-Congress leadership.
