Amur Falcons- the much awaited winged friends of Nagaland, numbering around 50 to 70 have arrived Pangti village on October 7 informed Amur Falcon Roosting Area (landowner’s) union (AFRAU).
The union said the numbers have visibly increased as presently observed around the roosting site from the watch towers.
A joint press release by AFRAU president Zanthungo Shitiri and general secretary Nribemo Merry informed all visitors that after October 20 there would be better viewing of the birds from the main roosting site.
It stated that the union has started its full swing protection of the migratory bird from October 11 onwards, through deployment of volunteers in the main points and has informed visitors to avail the services of the volunteers as guide or translator.
The union has also acknowledged the principal chief conservator and head of forest force M. Lokeswara Rao, for recognising the union’s contribution towards the conservation of Amur Falcon by awarding them the cash award in the presence of Pangti village council.
The union further informed that the money would be utilised for the general fund for Amur Falcon protection cause. It further expressed gratitude to DFO Doyang plantation drive, Zuthunglo Patton (IFS) for financial assistance to the union towards printing of visiting cards.
