The All Nagaland Ad-hoc Teachers Group (ANATG) 2015 batch has clarified that its ongoing agitation has been kept on hold and not suspended, as reported in a section of local dailies on Saturday.
A core committee member stated that reports claiming the ongoing protest had been suspended were based only on the minutes of a core committee meeting and not on the final decision of the general body.
He explained that the core committee had earlier resolved to place the matter before the general members for discussion during a meeting held at the premises of the Department of School Education here on Saturday.
Following detailed deliberations, the general body decided to keep the protest in abeyance till June 30. The agitation, which had entered its 13th day and included an indefinite hunger strike, will remain on hold during this period.
The member reiterated that the group’s demands remain unchanged and that the decision was taken after considering the assurances and proposals made by the government. He informed that the group would soon submit a formal letter to the government communicating its decision and position.
Recalling the background of the issue, he said the group had signed the High Powered Committee (HPC) agreement with the State government in October 2022, under which the matter was assured to be resolved by December 2023. However, the assurance has not materialised, and the teachers have continued to wait for the government to fulfil its commitment.
He pointed out that by June 30 this year, it would be two-and-a-half years since the HPC made its commitment. In view of this timeline, the group decided to temporarily keep its agitation on hold until then.
