DIMAPUR, JUL 10 (NPN): All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has withdrawn its earlier decision to disassociate from former president Katho P. Awomi, saying its previous statement had inadvertently created public confusion and caused unintended prejudice to the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF).
In a press release, ANCSU vice-president and Grievances Cell chairman Duve Tetseo said the union was issuing the clarification with reference to its media cell’s press statement dated July 3 concerning its former president.
Tetseo said a particular expression in the earlier statement had unintentionally created confusion and unintended consequences. He noted that allegations relating to the alleged demand for money had already been categorically denied and clarified on multiple occasions by the concerned parties.
“As such, the statement unintentionally caused prejudice to the reputation of the NSF. ANCSU sincerely regrets the same,” he said.
Following deliberations within the union, Tetseo said ANCSU had decided that its earlier statement disassociating from Katho Awomi would no longer remain in force until the facts were conclusively established through due process of law.
The union, however, reiterated its concern over the continued operation of illegal bars and nightclubs in alleged violation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act.
Stating that such establishments continued to operate openly despite repeated appeals by civil society organisations, ANCSU questioned why law enforcement agencies had failed to act against the illegal businesses.
The union called upon the responsible authorities to enforce the law impartially and take immediate action against all illegal establishments without fear or favour.
