ANCSU defers agitation over KSC girls’ hostel project

DIMAPUR, JUN 30 (NPN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has temporarily deferred its proposed agitation over the construction of the 100-bedded girls’ hostel at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, following what it described as positive administrative developments.
In a press release, ANCSU president Kivika Yeptho and general secretary Sotilo Tep said the developments came after its state-wide Black Friday protest on June 19 and sustained democratic pressure by the student community.
The union informed that the directorate of Higher Education, through a communication, had conveyed the government’s decision to retain the available CSR funds for the project, process a fresh proposal before the competent authority, and expedite the necessary administrative procedures for its implementation.
It further said that the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), in a letter dated June 29, had directed the directorate of Higher Education/project implementation committee (PIC) to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) within the sanctioned CSR allocation and complete the formalities required for commencement of construction.
ANCSU said these developments were a direct consequence of the collective determination shown by the student fraternity across the state. It expressed gratitude to all its associate and affiliated colleges for their solidarity and cooperation, stating that the unity displayed reaffirmed the collective commitment towards safeguarding the welfare, dignity and educational interests of female students in Nagaland.
While temporarily deferring its proposed agitation in the interest of constructive engagement and expeditious implementation, ANCSU said it would closely monitor every stage of the project’s execution. It warned that any undue delay, administrative complacency or deviation from the commitments formally communicated would prompt the union to revive and intensify its democratic agitation without further notice.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the proposed 100-bedded girls’ hostel is completed for the benefit and welfare of the student community.
