All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has sought Centre’s special attention and financial assistance for Nagaland during implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a representation to Union minister of state for education & external affairs Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, All Nagaland College Students’ Union president Vimeyiekho Vitso and general secretary Imnameren N Jamir pointed out that States like Nagaland would take a long time in implementing the new policy due to the existing poor facilities and infrastructure, which would lead to negative repercussions.
Hence, they said, if the New Education Policy was implemented, special attention and special financial assistance must be extended to the State.
As Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) serves as a crucial link between teacher motivation and quality of education, helping college and university teachers in developing their skills, ANCSU urged the Union minister of State to set up one such centre in Nagaland. Theypointed out that teachers of the State to date were required to go outside for orientation programmes and refresher courses.
Further, despite promising students, scholars and young scientists emerging from Nagaland, the union rued that the State did not have any Research Centre and Vocational Training Centre.
Mentioning that establishment of such centres would produce many scholars, researchers, scientists and skilled youth, it therefore appealed to the minister to do the needful in this regard.
ANCSU further apprised the minister that although Post Matric Scholarship for ST students was funded by the Union tribal affairs ministry, the scholarship was disbursed to students in instalments, which was defeating the actual purpose of the scholarship.
Hence, the union requested Singhto take up the matter with the Union tribal affairs ministry and facilitate in disbursalof the scholarship without instalments. Also, it said providing loans to the deprived, meritorious and deserving students from Nagaland to support their academic needs would be highly acknowledged.
The student body hoped that the induction of Singh as Union minister of state for education &external affairs would immensely help the educational sector considering his vast experience as an academician.
Stating that Nagaland had over the years yearned for better educational institutions, better infrastructure, modern facilities and desirable policies, the memorandum stated that the people of Nagaland would forever remain grateful to him, if he gave a positive response to the issues highlighted above.
