ANCSU seeks Gov’s intervention on PMS issue

All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has sought the intervention of the state governor in acquiring second installment of Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students.

In a representation addressed to the Governor of Nagaland, the ANCSU president, Katho P Awomi, and general secretary, Vimeyiekho Vitso, pointed out that PMS (ST) for session 2017-2018 has been released to the students on half payment only (50%). ANCSU stated that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs released an amount of Rs.6.14 crore as first installment of recurring grant-in-aid (ad hoc grant) under the scheme of Post-Matric Scholarship to the students belonging to STs for the year 2017-2018.

However, the union stated that the remaining required amount was yet to be sanctioned by the Ministry even after submission of SIT report to the concerned ministry on November 17, 2018.

ANCSU lamented that “step motherly treatment” has resulted in serious threat to the academic career of the students.

The union asserted that the students have been patient enough and could be “compelled to go beyond any action” to fight for their rights if the state government failed to acquire the required unsanctioned amount from the concerned ministry on priority.
