As part of Rastriya Poshan Maah 2025, the department of Social Welfare under CDPO Wokha Project, in collaboration with the department of Health and Family Welfare under CMO Wokha, organised a one-day anemia awareness-cum-screening camp for adolescent girls at Urban Health Centre, Wokha on October 4.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chonben Ezung, Medical Officer, Wokha, stressed the importance of menstrual hygiene and called for greater awareness within communities to ensure proper health care for adolescent girls. Dr. Thungrhoni Kikon, Medical Officer, highlighted the need for oral hygiene and encouraged citizens to avail free dental check-ups at the Urban Health Centre attached to the CMO Office.
The programme was chaired by Evelynne Yepthomi and Nchumthung Odyuo, Supervisors, Social Welfare Department. Acknowledgement was also given to the Chief Medical Officer Wokha for supporting the initiative and to Anganwadi workers for mobilising participants.
Altogether, 60 adolescent girls underwent anemia screening, out of which 14 were referred for medical advice due to low hemoglobin levels and six for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Sanitary pads were also distributed by the department of Social Welfare.
