Under the aegis of National Health Mission, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, training for Anganwadi workers on “Oral Health & ill Effects of Tobacco” was held at DPO’s conference hall, social welfare department organised by National Tobacco Control Programme, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) on April 9.
A press release by CMO Kohima, Dr. Leamnyei Konyak stated that the resource person for the fisrt session of the training was delivered by Dental Surgeon, NHAK Dr. Neiphrezo Sorunuo, covering on the topic “Common Oral Diseases & Importance of Oral Health & Hygiene” by power point presentation.
Speaking on the topic, Dr. Neiphrezo informed the participants about the importance of oral health. Session-II ON the topic “Adverse Effects of Tobacco” was taken by District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Dr. I. Simon Sumi, he informed that, youngsters start consuming either smoke or smokeless tobacco products as early as 15 to 24 years of age. The Nodal Officer also highlighted that one-third of the population is exposed to “second-hand smoke” and about 6 lakh people die yearly prematurely as a result of exposure to smoking. He also cited on the importance of tobacco control by preventing on several evidence-based strategies which can reduce tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke.
Training session was ended with discussion on the topic “Demonstration of proper teeth brushing technique”. All participants present were distributed toothbrush and toothpaste.
The training was chaired by social worker (NTCP) Achila Walling, invocation prayer was pronounced by senior typist Achanbeni, welcome address was delivered by CDPO (Urban) Reyivolu Kezo.
