Animal Welfare Fortnight 2017 in Wokha

Animal Welfare Fortnight 2017 was conducted by a team of doctors and staff from the department of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry at Wokha on January 26.
Poultry exhibition cum competition was conducted where various poultry birds like Turkey, White leghorn, Kuroilers, local/ desi birds were put up for exhibition which were brought by the local poultry farmers. Attractive prizes were given away to the winners.
Animal health awareness camp was also held where de-wormers, vitamins, mineral mixtures for livestocks; leaflets on information on cattle, piggery, cattle rearing, care of pet dogs were also given away to the local farmers.
The team was led by chief veterinary and Animal Husbandry Officer, Wokha, Dr. Ben Meren. The members comprised of deputy director Dr. Apilo Kikon, farm manager Chick Rearing Centre, Dr. Mhonlumi K. Tsopoe, fifteen numbers of field staff and animal attendants.
Department also visited Mount Tiyi College on January 27 and held a talk with the students and teaching faculty. Principal, Dr. Abeni highlighted on the importance of creating awareness about animal care and welfare.
Introductory speech on animal welfare fortnight was delivered by the CVO, Dr. Ben Meren. Dr. Mhonlumi K.Tsopoe delivered a lecture on issues relating to humane treatment of animals.
