Annual Sports Meet begins at St. Xavier College, Jalukie

DIMAPUR, MAR 18 (NPN):

The Annual Games and Sports Meet 2026 of St. Xavier College, Jalukie, commenced on March 18 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students, faculty and guests. The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, as the chief guest.
Chief guest Hiazu Meru, in his address, highlighted the role of sports in building discipline and character, while stressing the importance of skill development and career awareness for students preparing for life beyond graduation. He assured continued support to the college community.
During the awards segment, students who represented Nagaland at national-level events were felicitated, alongside recognition of college toppers for academic excellence. The chief guest then officially declared the Annual Games and Sports Meet 2026 open.
The programme began with the flag hoisting and rendition of the college anthem, followed by an invocation song. Assistant College Coordinator Akimeni NK Newmai delivered the welcome address, while Principal Rev. Dr. Fr. Francis S Cheerangal expressed gratitude to contributors in the college’s growth and encouraged students to pursue holistic development through academics and sports. Cultural performances added vibrancy to the event, including a veil dance, cultural fusion and a musical rendition of Believer by students. The ceremonial lighting of the torch by Vicar General Diocese of Kohima, Rev. Fr. Carlus, symbolised the spirit of sportsmanship. This was followed by an oath-taking ceremony and an impressive march past by various groups and NCC contingents. A striking human pyramid performance by students further enthralled the gathering. The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Elia Poireng and the singing of the National Anthem, marking the beginning of the college’s much-anticipated sporting season.
