A team of officials from All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA)-Central undertook education tour to Singapore from April 21 to 27, 2024. The visit of the team was to explore the education system followed by the Singapore government.
The team led by ANPSA (central) president, Nini Sekhose visited Knightsbridge House International School, United World College of South East Asia, National Institute of Education, Ministry of Education Heritage Centre and Star Publishing House.
During the visit, they observed that Singapore despite being a small island republic, treat education as its national goal and agenda. They stated that its founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, who was the Prime Minister for more than 30 years, laid a solid foundation for education and built the tiny republic into one of the world’s economic success stories.
The team observed that the government of Singapore was giving important to education and encouraged setting up of private schools and mandates private schools to be financially viable to maintain standards.
The government also focus more on teacher qualifications, outcome and curriculum rather than strictly infrastructure inputs. Meanwhile, ANPSA team expressed gratitude to the Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, for extending financial support which enabled us to explore the Singaporean education system. The team also appreciated Edmund Lin, the Special Education guide for anchoring and assisting them and ANPSA Central president for spearheading the entire trip.
