All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), Kohima unit held its annual general body meeting at Baptist High, here Saturday.
Speaking as the resource person on the theme “The way ahead for educators on the post pandemic world”, Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), project director, Dr Hovithal Sothu lauded the unit for pushing through inspite of the odds.
He addressed the gathered educators as the “most elite people” of the society for their contributions in educating the general population.
He pointed out that with the onset of the pandemic all the schools came to a standstill for almost two years now.
However, the educators were quick to adapt to the situation and came up with online classes which helped mitigate the losses incurred on the student community, Dr. Sothu said.
Successive lockdowns affected both government and private establishments and while government employees receive their salaries, in a stark contrast private school teachers had to bear untold miseries with their salaries slashed in halves. He commended the teachers for their level of perseverance even in when confronted by such hardships.
He added that despite the downsides of the pandemic it was during this time that many parents have realised the burden shouldered by the teacher looking after young kids on a daily basis.
Sharing his observations on the theme, Dr Sothu stressed on six points which would play crucial role especially in the education sector: (1) Enhancing health and safety measures at educational institutions, (2) Adaptability blended learning, (3) Taking care of the issues of haves and have-nots, (4) Creativity, training and support to teachers and staff, (5) Hand holding of less privileged schools and (6) Proper platform for students with learning difficulties. He expressed optimism that the world was now headed towards a covid-free world soon with heightened vaccination and personal hygiene.
“The post covid world will belong to those people with the right attitude, work ethic and right approach,” Dr Sothu said.
He later handed over the prizes winners of online solo and duet competitions organised by ANPSA during the lockdown period.
Winner of State award for teachers Purnima Kayina was felicitated during the meeting.
Earlier, the meeting was chaired by Kepelhouto Nakhro while Rev. Dr. Mechiehol Savi invoked God’s blessings.
Father C Jaison delivered the welcome address and Purnima Kayina offered the benediction.
ANPSA general secretary Kaikhü Achumi and treasurer Rokono presented their reports respectively.
Special numbers were presented by solo competition winner Chumrenthung Humtsoe from St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School and duet competition winners Chinia Kayina and Chovoa Kayina from Mezhür Higher Secondary School.
It may be mentioned that ANPSA Kohima unit is a conglomeration of 83 private schools.
