ANSASCF observes Int’l Day of Older Persons

DIMAPUR: All Nagaland Sumi Aphuyemi Senior Citizens’ Forum (ANSASCF), Pughoboto on October 1, observed the International Day of Older Persons 2026 at Pughoboto Town Hall under the theme “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.”
President of the Senior Citizen Association Nagaland (SCAN), Dr. I. Pihoto Khala, attended the programme as chief guest and delivered the message for the day. Speaking on the theme, Dr. Khala, citing Proverbs 16:31 and Psalms 92:14, said old age should not be considered a useless phase of life. He emphasised that despite rapid advances in technology and artificial intelligence, the wisdom and practical experience of the older generation could not be substituted. He urged senior citizens to take pride in their age and experience, support one another, and serve as a source of encouragement to the younger generation.
Retired Additional Director of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Atoshe Kiba, spoke on the importance of preventive healthcare among older persons. He advised regular health check ups, a balanced diet, and remaining physically and socially active. Demonstrating simple exercises for healthy living, Dr. Kiba also urged families to pay greater attention to the health and emotional well being of elderly members.
Former Principal of State College of Teachers Education and ANSASCF executive member Sukhavi Swu felicitated senior citizens of the area during the programme. The event was chaired by ANSASCF general secretary Shivito Wotsa, while retired Deputy Director of the Agriculture Department, Inavi Swu, delivered the vote of thanks. A special number was presented by Mishilimi, which enthralled the gathering.
The event, held for the first time in the Sumi Aphuyemi area, was attended by senior citizens and members of the forum, marking a significant step in honouring and celebrating the contributions of the elderly in society.
