ANTA pushes for VLTD implementation

DIMAPUR: All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA), Dimapur Unit, in consultation with its stakeholders, has expressed deep concern over the continued delay in implementing the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) system in Nagaland.
The association appealed to the Government of Nagaland and the Transport Department to implement the system at the earliest to prevent further hardship for commercial vehicle owners.
In a press release, ANTA president Ghunato Chophy and general secretary Vinito Assumi stated that the Supreme Court of India had directed the implementation of VLTD for commercial passenger vehicles as part of measures to strengthen passenger safety and improve accountability in public transport. Despite this directive, the system remains pending in Nagaland, causing immense inconvenience to vehicle owners.
ANTA Dimapur pointed out that hundreds of owners had already invested substantial amounts in purchasing new commercial vehicles, but many were unable to complete registration formalities due to the absence of VLTD.
It noted that several operators who purchased vehicles nearly seven months ago were still awaiting registration, leaving them unable to commence operations despite significant financial investment. The prolonged delay, it said, had resulted in severe financial hardship, loss of income, and suffering for families dependent on these vehicles.
The association also raised concerns over insurance claims and statutory compliance, stating that the absence of VLTD had adversely affected insurance processes and exposed operators to legal and financial risks.
Emphasising that timely implementation of VLTD would benefit both vehicle owners and the public, ANTA said the system was designed to enhance passenger safety, facilitate efficient monitoring, improve emergency response, and strengthen transparency in public transport.
In view of these concerns, the Dimapur Unit urged the government to urgently implement VLTD across the state, establish authorised installation facilities, and facilitate early completion of pending registration and statutory formalities.
ANTA reiterated its full support and cooperation with the government in ensuring successful implementation of the system and expressed hope that the long pending issue would be resolved without further delay.
