NN Nagi School, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, and the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), kicked off a week-long “Anti-Bullying Awareness Week & Campaign” at the school campus on Monday. The programme will continue till July 4.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Dimapur, Khekali Y. Sema, speaking as the guest, stressed the need to recognise, report, and reject all forms of bullying—physical, verbal, emotional, or cyber. She explained that bullying is different from friendly teasing, and continued harm is never acceptable. Highlighting various forms of bullying such as social exclusion, rumour spreading, and online harassment, she cautioned students about the serious consequences under the Information Technology (IT) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She also reminded students that even minors are held accountable for their behaviour online and urged them to report incidents of bullying.
Addressing the rise of cyberbullying among youth, Khekali warned that actions like online threats, creating fake profiles, and sharing private content without permission are punishable under law. She urged students to act responsibly in the digital space.
She encouraged students to approach Juvenile Welfare Officers at police stations, adding that police take bullying complaints seriously and may involve the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) or provide counselling support.
Speaking at the event, JJB Dimapur member Taka Longkumer said the Juvenile Justice system prioritises reformation over punishment. He urged students to speak up against bullying, noting that remaining silent can be viewed as indirectly supporting such behaviour. He also suggested introducing rewards for reporting bullying cases as a means of prevention.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by administrative supervisor Imtina, with invocation by Neipusino, a welcome note from school administrator Pete Nagi, an anti-bullying pledge led by student counsellor Dechen E. Dorjee, vote of thanks by Tsuktisenla, and benediction by head teacher Visano.
Student counsellor Dorjee informed that the campaign will include peer counselling, film screenings, a Kindness Day, creative activities, and a pledge-signing initiative to promote empathy and respect.
