Anti-drug activist arrested on rape charge

Itanagar, Jun 19 (PTI): Anti-drug activist Gumin Mize was arrested in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district in connection with an alleged rape case, a police officer said on Friday.
East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba said Mize was arrested by personnel of the Pasighat women police station on Thursday and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
The accused was apprehended around 2 pm and later produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody pending investigation, the SP said.
According to police, the arrest followed an FIR lodged by a woman accusing Mize of rape, criminal intimidation with a firearm, sexual harassment and exploitation while her husband was undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation centre.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had approached Mize in April seeking assistance for her husband, who had been admitted to a rehabilitation centre run by the Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Drug Warriors.
She alleged that on April 29, Mize took her in his vehicle to a secluded location and sexually assaulted her. The complainant also alleged that he threatened her with a pistol.
Based on the complaint, a case under Section 64(1), 75(2), 126(2), 351(3) BNS r/w Sec 27 Arms Act has been registered against the accused, the SP said.
