‘Anti-Leprosy Day’ & launching of SLAC in Phek

Along with the rest of the nation, Phek District National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) observed “National Anti-Leprosy Day” and launched “Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign (SLAC) 2024” under the theme, “Ending Stigma’ Embracing Dignity” on January 30 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Phek.


A press release by National Health Mission (NHM) Phek informed that delivering a keynote address, DTO Phek, Dr. Ebenezer Phesao highlighted the participants on the theme and also shared the origin, causative agent, signs and symptoms, treatment and its complication.
He further stressed on the stigma associated with leprosy and how to take corrective measures. He informed that leprosy was curable and appealed all the participants to strive together to achieve a leprosy free world.


In a short speech, DC Phek, Kuko Mero highlighted the gathering on “National Anti-Leprosy Day” and its importance. He also assured support and cooperation of the district administration for the success of the campaign. The DC Phek led the gathering in taking the “anti-leprosy pledge”.


The programme was chaired by DPO DAPCU, Kuduvo Kezo, invocation by PBC Phek Pastor, Wavitho, welcome address was delivered by DPM NHM, Sede Rupreo, and vote of thanks by Sr. PMS (NLEP), Dihutho.


Meanwhile, the department has informed that SLAC would be carried out across the district till February 13, in all five blocks. Various awareness activity would be carried out by the health care workers with an aim to address the issues of stigma and discrimination associated with leprosy and raise awareness among the people.
