Anti-malaria month observed in Longleng, Peren

The observation of “Anti-Malaria Month” by National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) concluded on June 29 in Longleng and June 30 in Peren. During the month long, various activities were conducted in villages and health units across all three blocks of Longleng district.


In a press release CMO office, media officer Longleng, Angshom Chemdok, said the District Vector Borne Officer emphasized that the “anti-malaria month” was conducted under the theme “Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable World”.


Media Officer (MO) reported that several activities were conducted in the district, including awareness campaigns on malaria prevention and other vector-borne diseases, diagnosis and treatment guidance, utilization of facilities at CHCs, PHCs, and sub-centers, and proper use of LLINs. Additionally, house-to-house visits, fever surveys, distribution of leaflets and posters, source reduction, container surveys were undertaken.


MO said that the team responsible for implementing Anti-Malaria activities in the district was led by District Vector Borne Officer (DVBO) Dr. Tiameren Imchen, District Vector Borne Consultant A.Nyumoi Phom, supported by Malaria Inspectors, Malaria Technical Supervisors, Surveillance Inspectors, Surveillance Workers, and ASHA.


Awareness and sensitization sessions were also conducted at churches and schools.
ASHAs were provided with hand-holding support and encouraged to conduct RDT/Slide tests during the monthly programme. MO highlighted that Longleng district had no Malaria cases since 2019 and the district was actively aiming to maintain the negative status.


PEREN: In Peren, the month long event under the theme, “Accelerating the fight against Malaria for a more Equitable World” concluded at Nzauna village, Peren district.
A press release by District Media Officer, CMO Office, Peren Shekho Sophie informed that
12 villages were selected by State NCVDC for the month long campaign. The selection was based on certain criteria such as low reach/possible malaria susceptibility/ and difficult or hard to reach areas.


Basing on IEC/BCC activities on Vector Borne Diseases, prevention and control with special emphasis to availability of free testing and treatment in government facilities for malaria were carried out in GMS Samzuiram, GMS Lilen, GMS Ikiesingram, GMS Jalukiezangdi, Besumpuilwa, Songsang, Pelhang , New Ngaulong, Lower Sinjol, and the last villages of Peren under Tening block- Nzauna and Lalong villages where mass fever screening for malaria, LLINs usage inspection in the villages were conducted. District Vector Borne Diseases Control Unit Peren in collaboration with ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) also organized an awareness program on malaria elimination at Beisumpuikam village on June 22.

District VBD Consultant Vimekhrie-u Metsieo, stated that along with the 12 selected villages the district also followed up with screening of mobile population/ migrant workers at Pedi and Heunambe which was led by Peren block MTS along with surveillance workers under the block.
