Anti-malaria monthlaunched in Tuensang

National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Tuensang, observed anti-malaria month with a district-wide awareness campaign, starting with a launch event at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office in Tuensang.
The programme was attended by administrative officials, church leaders, student union representatives, and colony and ward leaders. The campaign covered all blocks in Tuensang, including Noklak and Shamator districts.
During the event, VBDC Tuensang staff Yimliyangla Ong gave a presentation on mosquito breeding sites and preventive measures.
An interactive session was led by Dr. Ayangla Saku, DPO CD-II & DNO NPCCHH, and Dr. Alemba R. Jamir, Senior Specialist, District Hospital Tuensang, focusing on clean surroundings and involving youth in source reduction drives.
The health department, with support from community stakeholders, conducted special awareness camps across eight border areas—both international and inter-state. Due to frequent population movement in these zones, screenings were carried out among paramilitary forces, market vendors, and migrant workers to identify early cases.
To boost outreach, advocacy workshops were held in schools and churches. Preventive steps such as distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), larval control, and case tracking were also taken.
The observance underlined the importance of joint efforts in moving Tuensang closer to malaria elimination and safeguarding public health.
