Anti tobacco campaign among students

Expressing concern over the rapid increase in consumption of tobacco and tobacco products among the students in the state, various schools and District Tobacco Control Cell, Kohima have been organizing awareness programmes on harmful effects of tobacco at various educational institutions.. 
On August 5, Agape School, Chumukedima, organized an anti tobacco program where students participated in the essay-and-prepared speech competition.
Guest of honor, district program officer (NTCP), Dr. C. Tetseo, gave away the certificates and trophies to the winners as well as to all the participants.
In Kohima, an awareness programme on tobacco control on the theme, “Make Everyday No Tobacco Day” was held at conference hall of Don Bosco College, Kohima on July 28.
According to DIPR report, the District Nodal Officer, District Tobacco Control Cell, Kohima, Dr. Arenla Walling spoke on the topic “Hazards of Tobacco and COTPA 2003” where a total number of 240 students participated in the programme. The students later took pledge on anti-tobacco during the programme.
Other highlights of the programme included felicitation by principal of the college, master of the ceremony by John, prayer by Anuka, Bible reading by Chubamenla, welcome speech by Seropi, skit by Akash and friends, song by Bosco Music Society and vote of thanks by Poji.
A sensitization programme for nurses was also organized at Naga Hospital Kohima (NHAK) by the District Tobacco Control Cell, Kohima and another awareness programme on hazards of tobacco for students of Oriental College was also held on July 29 where Dr. Arenla Walling was the resource person in both the programme.
