Ao bodies give DoSE deadline to address teacher shortage

DIMAPUR, SEP 21 (NPN): Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have given the Department of School Education (DoSE) until the end of the 2026 academic year to take concrete action on the shortage and uneven distribution of teachers in government schools across Mokokchung district.
In a response to the under secretary school education, Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong, Watsü Mungdang president Tianaro Jamir and AKM president Lanulemba Longchar acknowledged the department’s assurance that teacher rationalisation and recruitment were under process, but said the shortage, particularly of subject teachers, continued to affect students in the district. The three organisations had issued a 45-day ultimatum to the department on July 3, 2026, seeking immediate measures to address the issue.
They said the department should use the remaining period of the academic year to ensure adequate recruitment and equitable distribution of teachers, including subject teachers, across government schools in Mokokchung.
The three bodies warned that if concrete and effective action was not taken by the end of the academic year, they would be compelled to pursue their own course of democratic action in the larger interest of students and the education system in the district.
