Ao Students Fellowship of Eastern Theological College (ETC), in collaboration with Ao families based in Jorhat, hosted the first-ever Tsüngremmung Festival at the ETC campus on August 2.
Held under the theme “Celebrating Culture, Building Community,” the event marked a significant milestone in ETC’s history, bringing together theological reflection and cultural pride on a shared platform.
Nagaland Legislative Assembly speaker Sharingain Longkumer attended the event as the chief guest, accompanied by officials from the Assembly Secretariat.
Addressing the gathering, Sharingain underscored the importance of unity, cultural affirmation, and building a common Naga identity grounded in faith and community values.
Guest of honour Rev. Dr. Prof. Razouselie Lasetso, Principal of ETC, emphasized the harmony between theological insight and indigenous traditions. Imotemsu Ao, IFS, extended greetings on behalf of the Ao community in Jorhat, highlighting the significance of cultural continuity among the Ao diaspora.
The programme opened with a prayer by Prof. Dr. Lovely Awomi James, followed by a cultural reflection from Rev. Dr. Sashikaba Kechutzar. Ao folk dances, songs, and greetings from distinguished guests added vibrancy to the occasion. The event concluded with a benediction pronounced by Dr. Lipoknenla Ozukum.
The celebration culminated in a traditional feast attended by over 600 guests. With indigenous Ao cuisine served and warm camaraderie shared, the event embodied the spirit of Tsüngremmung—fellowship, thanksgiving, and communal joy.
