Ao Milen condemns attack on journalist at Zinnia Flower Festival

DIMAPUR

The Ao Students’ Conference (Ao Milen) has strongly condemned the shooting of a journalist from Hornbill TV during the Zinnia Flower Festival held at Laii Village in Senapati district, Manipur, on August 30.
In an official statement, Ao Milen described the incident as “inhumane and barbaric,” expressing deep shock and sorrow over the attack. The organization emphasized that such violence undermines the role of journalists who strive to uphold truth and democratic values, especially in challenging environments.
“We earnestly call upon the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly,” the statement read, warning that failure to act could foster fear and disorder in society.
Ao Milen extended solidarity to the injured journalist, Dip Saikia, and conveyed prayers for his speedy recovery. The organization also offered support to Saikia’s family and the Hornbill TV fraternity.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and press freedom, Ao Milen urged civil society, organizations, and individuals to collectively denounce violence and uphold democratic principles.
