Ao Senden along with representatives from the Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT) and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) undertook an on-spot inspection of National Highway-702D, the vital road linking Mokokchung and Mariani (Assam), on February 24, 2025.
ALT media cell informed Mariani-Mokokchung road, one of vital lifeline for the people of Mokokchung district, over the years had remained in a pathetic condition hampering the wellbeing of the commuters, especially the tuckers ferrying essential commodities.
During the inspection tour, the Ao Senden team stopped at Changki village where the Changki village council shared their views about the NH-702D condition.
The Council expressed concern over the ‘drainage’ system and appealed for proper construction of the drain system to ensure all-weather road condition.
On its part, the PWD (NH) Mokokchung division assured that the project would be completed by March 14 and sought the support of all.
Speaking to the contractor, government officials and others, Ao Senden vice president, Tinukaba, said that all works should be completed in a time-bound manner. He stressed on the impending monsoon season, which would greatly hamper the developmental works.
Ao Senden vice president also expressed dissatisfaction at the poor drainage system and asked the contractor to ensure the highway was motorable for seasons.
Assuring completion of the road construction, the contractor highlighted on the completion of the Phase 1 and 2 of the project. He said the third phase would start shortly once information from Guwahati (official communications) was received.
Representatives from the Truckers Union, who were part of the entourage, expressed concern over the drainage system and specifically requested the road builder and the government to look into the issue since the truckers often faced hardship during the monsoon seasons.
The contractor, Ghunavi Aye, assured that all the remaining works would be done without delay. Ao Senden team was also accompanied by state government officials including EAC Ongpangkong Block and Dobashis, Mangkolemba Sub-division SDO, executive engineer of National Highways, Mokokchung Division, Er. Limatoshi and the contractor from the contracting firm ‘m/s Affluent Enterprises & Services.
