Aos celebrate Tsungremmong at Ungma

Tsungremmong, a pre-harvest of the Ao Naga was celebrated with much gaiety under the theme- “Terajem Nukmen” (Holistic Foundation) at the Yimtsungta Arok Sapang Ungma on Tuesday.
Advisor, Information & Public Relation and Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen graced the celebration as chief guest.


The festival was organised by Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem/Soyim Students’ Union (SST) and attended by Ongpangkong Students’ Union (OKM), Ao Students’ Conference(AKM), village council members of Ungma and Mangmetong and others.


Addressing the gathering, Imkong described Ungma village as the harbinger of Ao history as it held a significant place in all historical concepts of Ao tribe.
He therefore reminded the gathering that while celebrating the festival, they should not forget the ethos of their tradition because their identity as a unique community lies in their customs and tradition. He further added that “cultural traits are not static, they evolve with time, but what cannot change is the ethos of the tradition.”


Imkong further lauded the Soyim Students’ Union for preserving the legacy of the culture and tradition by the hosting the festival.
Earlier, the meaning of ‘Tsungremmung’, was explained by Tatar, Rarentemjen Jamir and welcome note by SST president, Moatemsu Longkumer while festive greeting was delivered by OKM president, Limatongzuk Jamir.


Cultural dances were presented by OKM, SST Kongshir, Ungma Kosasanger Pusu Menden, SST and a special song by Tenemsanger Choir.
