APEN holds general conference; discusses power sector challenges

Association of Power Engineers Nagaland (APEN) held its general conference on May 21 at the conference hall of Engineer-in-Chief (Power), Kohima, where key discussions focused on challenges faced by the power sector in Nagaland.
The event was attended by minister of Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, as the special guest, along with Secretary (Power), Asangla Imti.
In his speech, Kenye praised power engineers for their dedication and hard work. He highlighted that, unlike other states where uninterrupted power supply allows billing to be a priority, Nagaland focuses more on restoring power supply over billing and energy conservation. He emphasized the importance of billing consumers based on actual electricity usage to encourage responsible energy consumption and facilitate the implementation of smart prepaid meters.
Kenye also spoke about the rooftop solar PMSG-MBY initiative, introduced by the Government of India, explaining its benefits in reducing electricity costs for consumers. He urged engineers to prioritize the development of local power generation projects to reduce Nagaland’s dependence on external sources.
Secretary Asangla Imti commended the state’s power engineers for their efficiency and dedication. She encouraged them to embrace modern technology and move away from manual systems, emphasizing the importance of implementing smart prepaid metering and rooftop solar initiatives under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
APEN president Er. Kasho Chishi urged engineers to uphold ethical values in their profession while acknowledging their responsibility to the public. He emphasized the need for continuous technological updates and reforms in Nagaland’s power sector to improve service quality.
During the conference, new office bearers were appointed for the term 2025-2028, with Er. Mhonlumo Kikon as president, Er. Kikrusenuo Chielie as vice president, and Er. Y. Akito Sema as general secretary, along with other appointed members.
