APO meets BRO over deplorable road conditions

Angami Public Organisation (APO) in a meeting with BRO has expressed concern over the deplorable road conditions in Nagaland especially in and around Kohima and Dimapur.
In a press release, APO stated that in their recent meeting with chief engineer, BRO, Bhatnhgar and his second in command and other officers at Dimapur, the organisation lamented that it has been more than four decades since BRO had been overseeing the national highways of Nagaland, yet the quality and standard cannot be compared to those of other neighboring north eastern states.
In this regard, APO urged BRO to improve and uplift the quality of the state national highways so as to attain the standard and status of other NE states. The organisation also lauded BRO for the construction of drainage in Kohima town along the national highway
In the meeting, APO also requested BRO to start the construction of new roads at Zhadima village area which was entrusted and allocated to them and also pitched for construction and building of road below Civil Hospital, Kohima.
APO also highlighted the prevailing condition of roads at Zubza, Dzudza River and requested the BRO to construct strong and permanent retaining wall starting from the river bed for effective control of landslide.
APO stated that BRO admitted that it was facing problems regarding construction and maintenance of roads in Kohima and Dimapur for which it has requested the state government to take over. However, there has been no response and no decision taken by the State Government till date, stated BRO.
The organisation said BRO also informed that in the case of NH 29 and other highways, it was facing huge problem due to the construction of approach roads from the highway and stone quarrying along the national highway, which destroys the drainage system and in turn affects the condition of the roads.
On this issue, APO said BRO has also requested the state government and the public to cooperate with them for the maintenance of good road conditions.
Further, APO and BRO concluded that there would be interactions and consultations with each other for better maintenance of good quality roads.
