PRO IGAR (N) in a statement has claimed that the 32 Assam Rifles busted an illegal detention centre, run by NSCN (I-M) in “Sitiki basa village, Dimapur” and rescued two abducted civilians.
On July 30, PRO said after receiving inputs AR carried out a search where two “abducted individuals” were found “bound in chains were subjected to inhuman and despicable conditions”. The victims were identified as Raju Choudhary, resident of Khatkhati, KarbiAnglong and Nayan Bora, resident of Bokaghat, Golaghat.
PRO said Raju, state president of an NGO– Anti Corruption and Crime Investigation Front (ACCIF) having office at Purana Bazar, was abducted on May 2 and was detained for nearly three months. PRO said Raju was asked to pay Rs. 20 lakh for his release.
According to PRO, the second victim, Nyan Bora, stated that he was abducted at Dimapur Railway Station on June 18, 2016 after he arrived from Furkating to buy clothes for his brother’s shop.
PRO said the victim disclosed that he was subjected to beating for one month and a demand of Rs Five lakh as ransom was made to his family for his release. PRO said during the search, six NSCN (I-M) cadres who were running the illegal detention centre were also apprehended— “sgt. maj. Kuhoto Sema, resident of Zunheboto; ‘lnc crpl’ Angam Pamei, r/o Tamenglong; ‘pvt.’Ashim Valui, r/o Ukhrul; ‘pvt.’ Akum Yim, r/o Kiphire; ‘pvt’ Lipisa Achumi, r/o Kiphire and ‘pvt.’ Aleng Tangkhul, r/o Ukhrul. PRO said that many incriminating documents related to kidnapping/extortion were also recovered at the illegal detention centre.
Meanwhile, the apprehended cadres along with the recovered items and rescued individuals were handed over to Diphupar Police Station in presence of the family members, Police representatives, PRO stated.
