Assam Rifles (AR) under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-North) have been organising various programme for different sections of the society across Nagaland.
According to a press note by PRO HQ IGAR (North) Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, the following activities was carried out by units of IGAR-North across Nagaland.
36 AR: 36 Assam Rifles conducted an awareness lecture on the topic “conservation of natural resources” on September 18 at Government High School, Tening town, Peren. The aim of the event was to educate and spread awareness about the importance of conservation of natural resources amongst students. During the event importance of natural resources, its conservation and benefits in daily life were highlighted followed by an interactive session and an oath taking ceremony, wherein all students pledged to plant a sapling once in every month.
In a separate programme, 36 Assam Rifles conducted a drawing-cum-poster making competition on the theme “HIV & AIDS awareness” on September 18 at Government High School, Athibung, Peren. The aim of the event was to educate and spread awareness about HIV & AIDS and to identify the skills of budding talents. The event was attended by 21 students who participated in the competition and produced paintings highlighting preventive measures for HIV & AIDS. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony for winners.
15 AR: 15 Assam Rifles organised a tree plantation drive on September 20 at Primary School, Chengtang Saddle. Awareness about protection of Amur Falcon was imparted during the event. Altogether 100 civilians including students and teachers attended the programme. 24 saplings were also planted by the youth.
40 AR: 40 Assam Rifles organised a lecture on “HIV and Drug Free Nagaland” on September 19 at Menchengle village, Mon. The event was organised with the help of Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong,a women welfare organisation from Tobu. The lecture aimed at raising awareness about ill effects of HIV and drugs. A total of 125 women from 14 villages of Monyaksho and Tobu circle attended the event.
32 AR: 32 Assam Rifles conducted a lecture and screened a movie on HIV/AIDS Awareness on September 18 at Government High School, Singrijan, Dimapur. The aim of the event was to spread awareness about HIV & AIDS amongst the youth. The event focused on the causes, symptoms and preventive measures to be adopted. The event was attended by a total of 40 students and two teachers from Government High School, Singrijan.
AR ‘swachta abhiyan’ in districts: Mass cleanliness awareness campaign aiming at pollution free and clean Nagaland was organised by 3 Assam Rifles, 7 Assam Rifles, 9 Assam Rifles, 22 Assam Rifles and 28 Assam Rifles in Kohima, Kiphire, Phek and Wokha district with from September 15-20 as part of “swachta abhiyan”. The awareness campaign involved conduct of lectures on importance of abhiyan and interaction with civil society organisations, various other stakeholders and youth. Various individuals participated in the abhiyan and pledged to take it forward as their social responsibility and make their districts and Nagaland in general as clean as possible. The same would be continued till October 2.
22 AR: 22 Assam Rifles carried out an interaction with school authorities, headmaster, teachers, parents and students of the Bishop Abraham Memorial School (BAMS), Phek during the occasion of ‘parent’s day’ celebration on September 16. Commandant 22 AR colonel, R K Vikram as the chief guest on the occasion enlightened the students about the importance of the armed forces and gave a motivational talk to the kids. He also assured the student of all possible help for entry into armed forces to NDA, IMA/OTA through SSB coaching and timely career counselling.
9 AR: 9 Assam Rifles conducted an interaction with GBs, VCCs and youth presidents of Tsosinyu village and new Phekerkrima under Chiephobozou sub-division on September 18. The interaction focused on liaison between locals and security forces about issues concerning health, education, employment and ways to foster peace and harmony in the region. A total of 11 persons attended the meeting.
