The 7th battalion Assam Rifles under its civic action programme for 2023-24, established Ato Area Women Skill Development Centre at Nihokhu village ground on Tuesday. The centre equipped with four handloom machines and five sewing machines with a view to provide self-employment for local women was handed over to the village authorities by Inspector general, IGAR (North) Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera.
Maj Gen Lakhera while addressing the gatherings, emphasised on the role of womenfolk in taking the community ahead which he said could be achieved when women were self-dependent and skilled. Also, highlighting on the commitment of AR, the Maj Gen expressed the hope that the newly development centre would directly benefit hundreds of women in the area towards achieving self-reliance.
He said the era of sorrow and suffering has passed and it was time for commitment to ensure future generations march with pride and face challenges and write success story. During the programme, Lakhera also assured to take up the request to install futsal turf at Nihoku village.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Ahikali Yeptho, Coy Cdr, COB 7 AR Major Ranjeet Kumar welcomed the gatherings, folk dance by Nihokhu and Kuhuboto village, folk songs by Toshiho and Khehoi village and vote of thanks by president AASTL Hetoli and Lt Col, 21C 7 AR CH Jacob. The event was attended by hundreds of people including government administration and police officials, youths, CSOs, GBs and villagers.
