Assam Rifles conducted a wreath laying ceremony on January 3 at the Unit War Memorial at Ghaspani, to pay homage to Braveheart, Rfn Namal Kanti Barman. A press release by PRO, HQ IGAR (North) stated that Rfn Namal made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on January 3, 1997 when unit was deployed in Thoubal Bazar, Manipur.
The event was attended by three officers, 23 JCOs and 312 other ranks of the Assam Rifles. The attendees were briefed on how the fallen hero displayed conspicuous gallantry, indomitable resolve, grit, determination and selflessness beyond the call of duty and made the supreme sacrifice in the true tradition of the force. PRO said his courage and dedication would continue to inspire every soldier.
